book : One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Dear tom,

title: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
author: Ken Kesey
page count: 272

basic summery: It's told in first person narrative of a guy who's committed to an asylum. A new patient (McMurphy) comes in an reeks havoc on the ward, creating uprising among the crazies against the staff. I developed crazy empathy for the looneys and their victories really do feel like your own. McMurphy is the quintessential contemporary fiction hero. Also, the narrator is a lunatic so his reactions and thought process' are really unique compared to other books but not in a "hard to follow" sort of way nor an "overdone and confusing" way.

other comments: Kesey (the author) went to Stanford on a scholarship. In 1959, he volunteered in a CIA-financed clinical trial of psychoactive drugs (acid, mushrooms and DMT to name a few). Later in life, he drove a bus with his friends, "The Merry Pranksters", all around the states and showed people how to expand their minds with psychedelics. There are other books and movies about this adventure. When I read one, I'll tell you.

It should also be noted that Kesey died of diabetes, not insanity brought on by losing his shit.

bulk chips

Dear tom,

Like 5 cent candies, I've found a way to answer the age old question, "what should I eat now that I'm too stoned to move?"

I am going to start rallying people together to create high demand to buy chips in bulk. This way several flavours can be combined into one action-packed-snack-attack. Where else can you get cheetoes, ketchup chips and ruffles sour cream and onion? Where else will all your deep-fried potato fantasies come true? Nowhere ! At least, not unless my idea gets marketed.

mac and ed hardy

Dear tom,

I heard someone say the only Microsoft product that won't suck will be the Microsoft vacuum. I think mac users go out of their way to be mean.

People should boycott macs like they boycott ed hardy; not because of the fault of the product but because owning the product stereotypes you as being a complete condescending shit.

With that being said, I might want a Mac for my next laptop since mine always crashes and my mom receive ed hardy perfume from one of her friends. Hypocrisy is beautiful.

book : The Rules of Attraction

Dear tom,

I thought it would be nice if I wrote quick reviews of the book I read to entice you to read them too. It makes me really happy that you actually do read my recommendations. So here's the first one of the year !

***
title: The Rules of Attraction
author: Brent Easton Ellis
page count: 282

basic summery: Apathetic college art student sleep around and do lots of drugs and partying told in Ellis' beautiful satirical and apathetic tone. This is the same guy who wrote American Psycho (which you are currently borrowing !)

other comments: I also recommend Less Than Zero by the same author. The sequel to Less Than Zero comes out this May (Imperial Bedrooms) !! I do not recommend The Informers by Ellis because it sucked until the ending which is usually the opposite for books. All his novels have been made into movies but I haven't seen a single one and I would suggest never to see one. If you read his books, you'll know what I mean.

anime for winter semester

Dear tom,

If you're lonely and looking to waste some time Higurashi no naku koro ni has 26 episode of multidimensional excitement to keep you occupied. Unlike my last suggestion, which turned out only to be good when you're stoned and clueless, this anime delivers !

At least, I hope it does because I actually got sidetracked and stopped watching.

school supplies

Dear tom,

Why don't they make thicker pens with white out rolls at the ends so we can have the comforts of erasing while using ink?

If you hit rock bottom, try to sell this idea for food and booze.
